Positano was always high up on my list of places to travel to. I always saw picture perfect images of umbrellas lined up on the beach and felt pulled in with thoughts stirring of gelato and delicious Italian food looking out at boats in the distance and a gorgeous scenic view of the coast. A lot of our travels pop up last minute for work/play (we also love being spontaneous like that) and last month we were lead to this magical place! It truly was spectacular and I am so excited to break everything down, from where we stayed, to what we did and where we ate below because you all need to go visit! HOW TO GET TO POSITANO: There are a few different ways to get to the coast, depending on flights out of where you live. We did a direct flight from Toronto to Rome (would have loved to have had one straight to Naples, but we couldn’t find one). Then we flew Alitalia from Rome to Naples! We got a private driver to pick us up from the airport in Naples to drive us in (took about an hour, in the summer with traffic and more tourists this could take longer) to Positano. We did the Amalfi Coast last year with a cruise and had a tour bus (which was pretty scary on the cliffs), so we were relieved to have a private driver. We used the service Jack The Driver (thanks to my friend Haley for the recommendation) and they were kind, professional and reasonably priced for us. Max drove us in and he had so many awesome restaurant recommendations for us! If you get him, tell him we say hi! WHERE WE STAYED: I found our Homeaway Rental from my friend Caitlin who stayed there last year and had nothing but good things to say. These can be hit or miss, so I was grateful that it turned out great! We were located right beside the famous hotel Le Sirenuse (which is amazing to stay, but also starts at $1000 euros/night so it wasn’t in our budget). We had the same view as them, and the location was absolutely perfect because it was 5 minutes to the beach (you even have a private staircase to avoid crowds to get down there) and central to all of the restaurants we wanted to go to! If you stay at the very top of the hill in Positano I am warning you, it’s pretty brutal walking wise. Even where we stayed, there was a lot of walking involved, but it was still such a relief to be so central. Take this into consideration when booking your stay. Pietropaolo was our host at the Homeway – such a friendly, kind man who had fresh Italian sweets waiting for us to enjoy for breakfast. His rental would be perfect to do with a group of 4 people (there’s two bedrooms), and the view was just INCREDIBLE from our balcony. It was honestly the perfect place to stay and a much more reasonable rate (we payed roughly $200 euro/night). WHERE WE ATE (OUR FAVES): Max Restaurant: Quick walk from our Homeway tucked away and romantic! Da Vincenzo: Order the eggplant parmesan (the best thing ever on the menu) Le Sirenuse: We had drinks on the terrace here and it was gorgeous for a sunset view! They also bring out snacks for you when you order cocktails (like delicious olives, nuts etc.) Hotel Il San Pietro di Positano: The shuttle bus will come get you from the hotel to bring you up to this stunning property. I highly recommend having drinks on the terrace before dinner. We had the most delicious white asparagus soup (I know that sounds random but it was to die for – more of this experience in Vlog #2 coming later this week). Case E Bottega: If you want a break from all the pasta and pizza (which trust me you won’t because it’s delicious) hit up this trendy, organic, health focused spot! You can get yummy gluten free banana pancakes, smoothies, acai bowls, almond milk cappuccinos and more! We loved it for breakfast! Chez Black: If you want an infamous heart shaped pizza and a great view of the beach/people watching, get a seat at this place! WHAT YOU CAN DO: Head to the beach: Get there early to find a great spot (it costs roughly $20 euros), bring your own beach towel and some snacks (like fresh fruit) from a local market and enjoy your day here! Gelato Tasting: Try out a new place each day! We loved Bucca di Bacco! Path of The Gods Hike (Total: 4 Hours): If we had more days here we would have done this, I’ve seen photos from others that completed it and it was worth the views! Ferry to Amalfi or Capri: The best think about the Amalfi Coast is that you can island hop! We did this last year on a cruise, so this time we just hung out on Positano only! This can cost $12 euro for a round trip per person! Drive to Ravello: When we go back to the Amalfi Coast, we definitely want to hit up Ravello! So much beauty to be seen here too. Sunset Boat Ride: You can rent a private boat to take you around to see the view of Positano Coast from the water – it is absolutely breathtaking. Da Adolfo: Water taxi to this incredible restaurant and private beach for a fun day trip! It wasn’t open when we went, but if you go from June onward, you’ll get to experience it. Santa Maria Church: I love going inside old churches, admiring the beauty, sitting in quiet and praying. Catholic churches always have open holy water you can bless yourself with (it’s one of my favourite things on earth to do whenever I travel). MORE TRAVEL POSTS: HERE & Part 2 of the Vlog down below!
